Best Places to Eat in Skye

The Isle of Skye is on everyone’s radar these days.

Connected to the North East Highlands by bridge, this is the largest island in the Inner Hebrides and a stunning location for wild landscapes, quaint fishing villages and an abundance of history.

The island has wonderful wildlife, captivating hikes, and of course: amazing food that showcases the best produce of the wider region.

Here are some excellent suggestions to eat once you’ve tackled the Old Man of Storr or had a dip in the mythical Fairy Pools:

Loch Bay Restaurant

Restaurant of the Year Scotland 2024/25, Loch Bay is a Michelin-star restaurant that’s on a mission to share their passion for Skye’s enduring bond with the ocean.

The menu is constantly changing at Loch Bay to reflect the freshest produce but it’ll almost always have a key focus on the sea whether it’s monkfish, Bay Lobster, or a Gratin of Cod, Clams and Mussels.

Loch Bay sits in Stein on the North West of the island, around 15 minutes from Dunvegan and 35 minutes from Portree.

The Old School Restaurant

For a great relaxing meal after exploring the Isle of Skye, the Old School in Dunvegan is a popular choice.

Experienced chefs cook up an ever-changing diverse menu with regular classics often served up such as Cullen Skink and Haggis.

Visitors praise the Old School, particularly for its friendly atmosphere, affordable fare and variety of fresh, hearty dishes.

The Three Chimneys

Another Michelin-starred restaurant, The Three Chimneys is inspired by the exceptional quality of ingredients found on Skye and they’ve been cooking up superb dishes for 35 years to reflect that.

High-quality four-course menus are the norm here with current menu items including Loch Dunvegan Langoustines, Vatten Croft Beef Lasagna, and Woodland Pigeon.

Whilst Three Chimneys is without a doubt on the expensive side, diners applaud this establishment for its premium fine dining and exceptional service.

Edinbane Lodge

Edinbane Lodge came up trumps at the 2023 Scottish Excellence Awards for Restaurant of the Year and the Michelin Guide restaurant describes itself as casual fine dining on the beautiful Isle of Skye.

Edinbane Lodge is based within a historic 16th-century hunting lodge having been renovated in 2018.

Led by head chef Calum Montgomery, Edinbane looks to incorporate every corner of the menu as locally sourced produce straight from the island.

The menu changes every 4-6 weeks in line with seasonal fresh ingredients and current items include a beef tartare with a charcoal emulsion, creel caught lobster with nasturtium and highland wagyu beef with pickled veg.

Pizza in the Skye

Looking for something a little lighter on the wallet?

Pizza in the Skye serves up wood-fired pizza with Italian thin crust in the beautiful harbour town of Portree.

Cooked by open flame by a pizzaiolo trained in Tuscany, this place is highly coveted and often described as having the best pizzas in Skye.

Bar Am Pràban

Local ales, self-produced Gaelic Whiskies, and wholehearted food from the land and the sea,  Bar Am Pràban is a rustic hotel and restaurant with spectacular views of Skye’s coastline and islets.

Whether you tuck into their oven-roasted breast of guinea fowl, or battered haddock and chips, this place is perfect for a rainy day, Bar Am Pràban offers a cosy atmosphere and friendly, local vibes.

The Shellfish Shack

You needn’t only sit in Michelin-starred restaurants for fresh, excellent seafood.

The Shellfish Shack is a popular takeout joint where squat lobster rolls, pots of mussels and amazing oysters can be served up to name just a few options.

Fancy the lot? Shack Platters are offered to provide visitors with a taste of the best that these waters have to offer.
