Best Places To Eat in Ullapool

Ullapool is an 18th-century fishing village located on the Northwest coast of the Scottish Highlands.

Situated on the edge of Loch Broom, you are surrounded by a stunning mountainous backdrop, perfect for hikers and nature lovers alike, Ullapool is increasingly becoming more popular for its unspoilt natural environment.

Due to its location, Ullapool is known for its delicious seafood, but there are plenty of other options to please everyone, here are some perfect eating spots to enhance your Highland experience.

The Seafood Shack

Starting with one of Ullapool’s best-rated seafood spots for lunch, you’ll find their award-winning Seafood Shack not far from the edge of the Loch.

Friends Kirsty and Fenella started the shack after realising the produce coming in on fishing boats was not being utilised in Ullapool enough and so in 2016, they opened this dainty but hugely popular Seafood Shack.

With a small but mighty menu, don’t miss the highly-rated tempura haddock wrap. Other options include a tray of langoustines and a hearty seafood chowder.

The Dipping Lugger

The Dipping Lugger has a rich history dating all the way back to 1789. Seeing the potential, The Dipping Lugger was taken over in 2018 when the owners restored the building into a luxurious hotel and restaurant.

Featured on the Michelin Guide, The Dipping Lugger provides a top, premium dining experience with a menu that showcases amazing local produce including deer, beef, and scallops.

If you’re looking for a place to stay, the boutique hotel is decorated exquisitely and placed on the waterfront of the Loch.

Cult Café

If you’re looking for a cosy brunch spot after a morning hike, the Cult Café offers a lovely atmosphere with some great food to warm you up.

Whether it’s breakfast you’re after or lunch, there are an array of dishes to please everyone. Fill up on Cult’s own version of an English breakfast or how about their Indian-inspired beef burger?

If you still have room, why not take away one of their delicious homemade cakes?

The Ceilidh Place

This charming pub not only serves you food but has all bases covered, you can pop over to their in-house library, take a look around their art gallery and listen to great music.

The Ceilidh Place takes loyalty very seriously, they’ve kept the same chef for over 15 years and kept popular dishes on the menu for the last 5, if it ain’t broken, why fix it!?

The menu showcases some of its local seafood but also has a hearty risotto verde on the menu and Highland venison.

Grab yourself a book with a G&T, and enjoy the electric atmosphere of The Ceilidh Place.

The Arch Inn

The Arch Inn has a relaxed atmosphere for a casual dining experience. Like many of the restaurants in the area, the menu comprises locally sourced ingredients.

Try out a traditional Cullen Skink which is a Scottish soup made up of smoked haddock, potatoes and onions.

We’re sensing a musical theme in the village of Ullapool so stay for a digestif and listen to the live music The Arch Inn regularly puts on.

The Waterfront Bar

If you’re looking for the best spot to enjoy some tremendous Scottish whisky, look no further than The Waterfront Bar which sits on the side of the Loch, providing breathtaking views as well as a vibrant atmosphere.
